As I approach my 79th birthday I seem to see more going on in life.
We let our natural-born citizens go hungry while we welcome and feed thousands of people who came into our country illegally.
We give non-citizens money, food, and a place to live, while we have military vets on the street and hungry.
We can give foreign countries hundreds of millions of dollars but can’t give our senior citizens a decent Social Security raise.
As I said the BS is getting deep.
See where Riverbend just completed its 33rd year—way to go.
When are they going to finish the unnecessary park at MLK and Market? The more they do, the stranger it looks. What is the building supposed to be? Is that a stage for bands? Don’t we have one across the street? It will make a nice place for the Patten Tower residents to meet and enjoy—oh wait, the city will ban them from using it. Is that racism?
I think the clock is ticking for the big implosion (some of you know what I mean, the others will soon realize it).
Why don’t they give Trump a chance, what are they afraid of?
Why all the bike lanes around town? Most of the bike riders ride where they want and don’t use the lanes – have you seen any of them using them? Bicycle riders get you’re a**es out of the traffic lanes and stop holding up traffic.
Looks like we are becoming a city of Mexican, pizza, and burger restaurants, with a huge number of brew pubs. Thank goodness for a few fine restaurants like Scottie’s on the River to give us a better break.
Tennessee has a law that says if a grocery store has a buy-one-get-one-free sale, if you only want one they have to charge you only half price.
What happened to RC Cola and Double Cola? Part of my childhood… Glad to see Kay’s Castle Ice Cream is making a comeback in grocery stores (another part of my childhood).
Chattanooga is lucky to have McCallie, Baylor, and GPS, and lucky that they all give need-based financial aid – it gives our kids a chance to get a topnotch education.
Have you been to a Lookouts game? Great fun – reasonable price – try it.
When is the school system going to get off its butt and open a vocational school? We still need plumbers, carpenters, beauticians, electricians, cooks, mechanics, etc.
Are you tired of all the lawyer TV ads? Just asking.
Can’t believe all the apartments and condos being built in the Chicken Odor Zone. If you don’t know what the “chicken odor” is, you are new to Chattanooga.
We need more manufacturing in the area. We need places to replace Wheland Foundry, Combustion Engineering, and DuPont. Places that pay a decent wage. And $10-$15 an hour is not a decent wage – you have to work an hour at those places to buy a burger and a beer at most places now (I know not all – not fast food, but sit down places).
When you go shopping, try to buy items made in the USA if you can find them. Maybe the new tariffs will level the playing grounds, and American manufacturing (clothes, shoes, TVs, etc.) can have a chance again.
Went to Bessie Smith Strut this year – it’s making a comeback. The city and Riverbend should put the support back and help it comeback. Remember how much fun you used to have at it?
Well, I guess I ruffled enough feathers, but at almost 79 I don’t give a damn.
‘Til next month,
Paul Burke Sr.
