The Lookouts offense was strong and the pitching staff even stronger, Tuesday night, as Chattanooga won game three of the series against the Jacksonville Suns, 6-1.
Lookouts hitters carved out 11 base knocks and six runs against the Suns, with four Chattanooga players finishing with multi-hit nights. Daniel Palka and Mitch Garver celebrated their Southern League North Division All Star selections by each going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs while Garver also drove in one. Engelb Vielma had two hits in four at bats with a stolen base in his return to the Double-A club tonight, while DJ Hicks fashioned three hits of his own in his 19th multi-hit performance (tied with Zack Granite for the team lead).
The Lookouts pitching corps didn’t need nearly as much as the offense gave them though, as starter David Hurlbut and swing man Omar Bencomo combined to hold the Suns to just one run on seven hits. Hurlbut threw seven innings without a walk and with five strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the year (4-3), while allowing Jacksonville’s lone run in the top of the fifth. Bencomo then finished the game by allowing only a hit and three walks while striking out four in the eighth and ninth innings.
James Roberts drove in the only run for Jacksonville and was the only Suns batter to have more than one hit, finishing the day 3-for-4.
The Lookouts will go for their 6th series win tomorrow night with right hander Aaron Slegers (2-4, 3.84) on the mound opposite the Suns Matt Tomshaw (1-1, 1.80). Tomorrow night is also Classic Car Night at AT&T Field presented by Coker Tire with first pitched scheduled for 7:15 pm.
