A wild night at AT&T Field was capped by a go-ahead hit-by-pitch and a 6-5 win for the Lookouts to open the second half of the 2016 season.
Travis Harrison drew a third straight walk for the Lookouts in the eighth inning to load the bases on free passes, setting the table for Mitch Garver, who wore a pitch from the Generals’ Matt Anderson. Garver took the free base while Zack Granite, the first batter to walk in the inning, crossed home plate and gave Chattanooga their winning run.
All Star closer Trevor Hildenberger protected the one run lead by striking out three of the four batters he faced to earn his second win of the season and lower his ERA to a stellar 0.71.
Four of the Lookouts other runs on the evening came by homerun, as Mitch Garver went deep for the sixth time this season in the bottom of the second. Zack Granite followed suit with his career-high fourth homer, before Leo Reginatto hit an inside-the-parker to put Chattanooga up 4-2. A wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh made it 5-2, Lookouts lead, but Jackson went on the close the gap in the top of the eighth.
Lookouts reliever Jake Reed entered the game in the seventh with a scoreless frame, but ran into trouble when Leon Landry reached base on a wild pitch third strike and was doubled in by DJ Peterson. Five batters later, Jackson loaded the bases and scored a run on an Ian Miller single, chasing Reed from the game. Hildenberger then plunked a batter to knot the game up at five, before being saved by Chattanooga’s own bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the home half of the inning.
With the victory to open the second half, the Lookouts improved to 14-6 in the month of June, continuing a streak of solid play the team displayed to close out the first half. Tomorrow night, Ryan Eades (4-2, 3.66 ERA) will look to continue the team’s hot streak while riding one of his own, entering the game with 13 straight scoreless innings pitched and having allowed just one run in his last three starts. The Generals’ will answer with RHP Andrew Moore (2-0, 3.10) who has yet to face the Lookouts this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
